Yukihiko Yasuda
The advancement of art in Japan paralleled the
country's modernization during the Meiji period. During this
period traditional painting was influenced by modern Western
paintings and then modern Japanese painting was born. Yukihiko
Yasuda (1884-1978) continued the work of Taikan Yokoyama and
Shunso Hishida who pioneered the establishment of Japanese painting
as a modern art. As he sought themes in Japanese and Chinese
history, Yukihiko Yasuda created ideal and sophisticated expressions
utilizing the Yamato-E (Japanese traditional painting) and modern
formative ideas. |
